Threave Rovers
Donley
GRETNA FC(2008)
Milligan (2)
In very wet conditions Gretna got the game
underway and soon had Parker in action when Inglis fired in a long range effort
which the Rovers keeper gathered at the second attempt.
A stray pass fell to Scott Milligan just in the home half and the Gretna striker
calmly despatched the ball into the net past the advancing Parker in the tenth
minute 0-1.
McGuffie almost made it two but his header was
just wide of the goal after Thorburn had delivered an inswinging corner in the
fifteen minute.
After a series of corners Gretna still only had
the one goal advantage, an advantage that was to be over come when Donley broke
down the right from an apparently offside position to run through and fire past
the helpless Wright, 1-1 int he 32nd.minute.
Parker was the Threave saviour again when he
denied Milligan a goalscoring chance at the expense of another corner. As the
visitors piled on the pressure Rovers defending became more desperate with everything
being thrown in front of the ball. However the home side survived on level
terms at the break, 1-1.
The second half began with Gretna pushing Rovers
back with Longcake instrumental in anything positive for the visitors, Anderson
and Miliigan were up against a determined Rovers back four willing to commit
everything to stop the duo from scoring. In fact their tactics worked until the
65th.minute when Parker spilled a Slattery long range effort with Milligan on
hand to strike home the rebound, 1-2.
Play raged from end to end with both teams
struggling to create an opening, Gretna's Anderson did have the ball in the net
from a neat pull back by Longcake, but the official ruled the ball out of play.
As the game entered the latter stages play
became a bit fragmented as Gretna ran down the clock
to finish the game 2-1 winners.
